The School Cafeteria

SituationThe cafeteria in the school is a private one, and students have to buy their food, or any other thing they feel like eating. Nobody has any control over the quality of the  food. The other thing is the fact that the cafeteria is open during all hours of the day and if students skip classes they would go to the cafeteria, sit and eat there while their friends are studying in class.

Goals

Students will learn how to identify a problem and detect the causes of the problems: Students will be able to offer alternatives to the situation presented by the problem. Students will know how to work with the people involved with the quality of food in the cafeteria to together find solutions. Together with the people involved in the cafeteria hours, they will know how to offer several alternatives to the cafeteria hours so that no one is affected.

Process of Teaching - Learning for solving the cafeteria problem. In the class the teacher will write the “school cafeteria” and in order to do a brain storm, students will give their comments about it. The teacher will guide them to think about the good and bad stuff of the cafeteria and the answers will be written on the board.  Furthermore, the teacher will ask them what do they think about the hours that the cafeteria in the school works and if there’s any problem with that?

Then teacher will give the students a working sheet, to work in groups and answer some questions to  identify the problems that  the school cafeteria has.
